Ahead of the June 26 primary election of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Awka, a women right advocate and the CEO Pacific International Schools Ltd, Oby Stephanie Dike Amaechi has called on the delegates to vote for one of the leading candidates in the contest and the Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial district, Sen. Uche Ekwunife.
According to the advocate, Sen. Ekwunife whom she described as a consummate leader and administrator will emerge winner of the November governorship election in Anambra if elected as flagbearer of the party on Saturday, saying her dexterity and candour stands her out.
In a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Awka, the Anambra state capital, Oby S. Dike a member of Women4Women noted that among those contending for the ticket of the party, Sen. Ekwunife is the most outstanding both in character, experience and good track record.
She further noted that Sen. Ekwunife has demonstrated motherliness and given her people a new lease of life in her fruitful sojourn in the House of Representatives and now the Senate.
“The Saturday primary election of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP ahead of the November governorship election is no doubt a veritable opportunity for the party to help in positioning Anambra on the pedestal of prosperity and progress.
“It an opportunity to demonstrate to the world that transparency and openness is its watchword. I have no doubt the outcome of the exercise will be a true reflection of the people’s will.
“I therefore appeal to the delegates to go for experience. To go for performance. To go for the candidate who has local network and international appeal to rewrite the history of Anambra. To go for the woman who has demonstrated motherliness to her people and the one Anambrarians want.
“It is cheering that the voices of the people have resonated even louder than before. All across the state, Sen. Ekwunife’s popularity has continued to wax like a movement. It is my earnest belief that the most patriotic delegates will be guided by their shared common belief for a more prosperous Anambra as they vote” she said.
Sen. Ekwunife, a ranking member of the upper Legislative chamber of the National Assembly is expected to slug it out with other governorship aspirants in the primary election of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 26, 2021.
Political watchers are of the opinion that she stands out among other contestants in the race to replace the incumbent governor Willie Obiano of APGA.
Obiano is expected to vacate office March next year upon the completion of the four years of his second tenure.
Sen. Ekwunife’s fruitful career in politics has seen her sojourn from the House by Representatives to Senate.
If elected into office, she will be the first female elected governor in the country.
