Peter Nweke, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, has died.

Nweke died as a result of injuries sustained in an attack by hoodlums thought to be political thugs during Saturday’s gubernatorial and assembly elections.

Onome Onovwakpoyeya, the Ebonyi Police spokesperson, confirmed Nweke’s death on Sunday.

Nweke was beaten up and transported to the hospital unconscious, where he was later confirmed dead by a doctor, according to Onovwakpoyeya.

She also said that the police had started an investigation into the events leading up to the death of the party’s Chieftain, aiming to apprehend and prosecute those guilty.

Samson Nweke, a human rights campaigner and Peter’s younger brother, confirmed his death, saying thugs beat into a coma him.

Thugs holding AK-47 rifles, he claims, stormed his polling unit booth 10, Ogboji ward, Ezza North LGA Ebonyi State, and surrounded his brother.

He claimed that his late brother’s death resulted from an unnamed political party in the state, claiming that he received an intelligence report before the incident that led to his death.
