Paul Onuachu Set To Return To Turkish League

Super Eagles Striker, Paul Onuachu is set to return to the Turkish Süper League, with Göztepe making a strong push to secure his signature.

Trabzonspor, Onuachu’s former club, has been actively pursuing the Nigerian striker, aiming to bring him back after his impressive stint with the team, Soccernet.ng reports. Last season, Onuachu made a significant impact, scoring 17 goals in 25 official matches for Trabzonspor.

Despite Trabzonspor’s interest, Southampton has not agreed to release Onuachu, holding firm on their valuation of the player. As negotiations continued, Göztepe emerged as a serious contender, positioning themselves to hijack the deal from their rivals.

Göztepe’s offer is proving more attractive, and the club is vigorously working to finalise the transfer. Southampton, while keen to retain Onuachu, cannot guarantee him regular first-team football, prompting the striker to seek more consistent playing time.

A resolution is anticipated within the next two days. Initially, Southampton had set a transfer fee of €15 million for Onuachu.

However, it now seems likely that the Nigerian forward will spend another season in Turkey, with Göztepe determined not to miss out on this opportunity.

If this deal goes through, Onuachu will be joining his countryman, Victor Osimhen, who has just joined Galatasaray on a four months loan deal.

At the international level, the Super Eagles are scheduled to face Benin Republic in less than three days. Notably, Paul Onuachu will be absent from this crucial fixture.
