No fewer than 650 students and parents of children studying at ESM University in the neighbouring Benin Republic have staged a peaceful protest at the home of HRM King Apostle Chibuzor, General Overseer of Omega Power Ministry (OPM), ABN TV reports.
This is in response to a recent decision of the federal government to invalidate thousands of degree certificates issued to Nigerian students by Benin Republic and Togo universities.
They are seeking the assistance of the revered man of God to appeal to the federal government to reverse the decision, saying it will jeopardize the future of several Nigerian youths.
ABN TV gathered that several beneficiaries of Apostle Chibuzor’s scholarship scheme are studying in the university.
But according to the General Overseer of Omega Power Ministry, due diligence was carried out from Nigeria’s ministry of education before before his scholarship students were sent to ESM University.
He emphasized that the students’ education and future should not be compromised by such a declaration by the FG.
The protesters are calling on the Nigerian government to reconsider its plans and recognize the legitimacy of universities in Benin Republic, ensuring the continuity of education for Nigerian students.
