Owo Killings: Security Expert, Sir Udensi Finally Reveals What Led To Attack

Sir Chikwe Udensi

A security expert and Interpol Systems Consultant, Sir Chikwe Udensi has expressed sadness over the killing of scores of worshippers at St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo area of Ondo State on Sunday by suspected bandits.

According to him, the attack reveals the lack of intelligence within the ranks of security agencies in the country, describing it as worrisome.

Udensi the factional governorship candidate of APGA in Abia State who spoke on Love FM Umuahia’s Open Parliament streamed live on ABN radio on Wednesday said about 27 persons, including children were feared dead at the attack.

He said investigations reveal that the attackers came in two buses and over 100 motorcycles, wondering why this did not attract the attention of the security operatives.

The APGA chieftain further highlighted that the location of the church attacked by the assailants is in a strategic place where it will be easy to attract attention as the vehicles and motorcycles moved in large numbers.

What this shows is the enormous lapses in our security network. We need to ensure that we provide the necessary tools especially intelligence.

“Today security has gone beyond gun and bullet but even though it is important, the most important thing is that over eighty percent of work in security is intelligence work. You must have to use intelligence to gather your data, you must have to use intelligence to nip crime in the bud,” he noted.

While insisting that this is lacking, Sir Udensi further emphasised that it has made citizens prone to security challenges, adding that the Owo massacre is very unfortunate.

He expressed regret that the leadership of the country across board has not demonstrated enough concern to ensure that lives and property are secured.

He therefore said it has become necessary for churches, businesses and public buildings to have CCTV cameras in and around them to aid investigation in cases of attacks.

He said if this is not done, it will be more disastrous in the future.
