Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South Federal Constituency of Abia State, Rep. Sam Onuigbo has congratulated the governor-elect of the state, Dr. Alex Otti of the Labour Party on his victory at the March 18 governorship election in the state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC on Wednesday declared Otti winner of the Saturday’s election after he polled 175,467 to defeat his closest rival, Okey Ahiwe of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 88,529.
Onuigbo who vied to represent Abia central senatorial district on the platform of APC in a congratulatory message on Wednesday said Otti’s victory symbolises the dawn of a new era and is testament to the overwhelming desire of the people of Abia State to change the downward trajectory of the State, and seek for new vistas under a visionary, people-centered, accountable, and committed leadership.
He said, “This mandate is therefore an important call to service, the placement of hope and visions of a brighter future on the shoulders of a man whom the people believe will champion their welfare. Therefore, I charge Dr. Otti to prioritize the wellbeing of the people of Abia State over any personal aggrandizement or narrow groups interest.
“As an Abian who is committed to the overall welfare of our people, I will be supportive of Dr Otti and his administration and whether in or out of government, will continue to pursue the visions that will bring about public good, growth and development of our beloved State in complementarity with his own visions of a new and greater Abia.
“Elections are now over and it is incumbent on the people of Abia State irrespective of party affiliations to work with our incoming Governor to achieve the greatest happiness for the highest number of our people who have suffered bad governance for nearly a quarter of a century.
“Abia is now like a city set on a mountain. The eyes of the world are on us. May Dr. Alex Otti succeed, and may Abia State succeed.”
