Kenneth Omeruo has bemoaned Leganes’ failure to secure promotion to Laliga Santander in the just concluded Laliga SmartBank season.
Leganes had aimed to return to the Spanish top-flight league last season after they were relegated in 2020. However, they finished 12th on the log.
While Almeria striker and compatriot Sadiq Umar is relishing a great time in the top division next campaign or a move to a bigger club after helping his side to win Laliga 2 championship and securing promotion, Omeruo, who scored two goals last season in 17 league games, including against Almeria on the final day, will have to spend another season in division one.
In a post he made on social media to reflect on the season, the 28-year-old found something to cheer, for and noted that the team will “go again”.
He wrote: “Great way to finish the league…unfortunately, our goal wasn’t achieved…we go again…Vamos Lega.”
Omeruo played 19 games in all competitions for CD Leganes in the 2021/22 campaign. The center-back played 17 Laliga2 games and scored two goals as Leganes finished 12th in the Spanish second-tier league. He also played two Copa del Rey matches and made one goal assist.
