The Ebonyi State Police Command has clarified that Comrade Igboayaka Igboayaka, a prominent Igbo youth leader, was arrested and not abducted as widely reported.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Joshua Ukandu, stated that Igboayaka’s arrest was based on a petition filed with the Commissioner of Police. The petition accused him of disseminating false information capable of disrupting peace and destabilizing communities in Ebonyi State.
“The Ebonyi State Command is aware of the information circulating in the media alleging the abduction of the Igbo youth leader, Comrade Igboayaka Igboayaka, on February 8, 2025,” Ukandu said.

He continued, “To set the record straight, Igboayaka Igboayaka was arrested by officers from the command following a petition which accused him of spreading false information capable of truncating peace and destabilizing communities in the state.”
The police assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that Igboayaka would be charged in court upon the conclusion of the probe.
“Furthermore, the command reiterates its commitment to carrying out its mandate within the bounds of the law while respecting the rights of individuals,” Ukandu added.
The clarification comes amid widespread concerns over Igboayaka’s sudden disappearance in Owerri, Imo State, on Saturday, an incident that had initially been reported as an abduction by unknown gunmen.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm while the legal process runs its course.
