Ohanaeze Urges Southeast Governors On Releasing Kanu, Leader Of IPOB

The leading sociocultural organization of the Igbo people, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has urged governors in the Southeast to stand with Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra in his demand that the Federal government releases Nnamdi Kanu.

In a press release issued in Awka, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, vice president of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, claimed that the release of IPOB’s leader will put an end to the violence in the region.

Okeke-Ogene urged other zone stakeholders to join the fight for Kanu’s release and the stabilization of the Igbo land.

He said that the Governors’ combined efforts would assist address the issues facing the area.

“We applaud Soludo for his strong political conviction in urging the arrested Biafra agitator’s immediate and unconditional release and for offering to act as his surety.

“Such a move has further shown his dedication to upholding the rights of the populace and advocating Ndigbo causes, not only in Anambra State but throughout the entire Southeast zone.

“The request should be backed and reiterated by other Igboland stakeholders, as demonstrated by the positions taken by the late Prof. George Obiozor and Mbazulike Amechi, the presidents of the Ohaneze.

“We urge the governors of the South East to support Soludo’s appeal.

“Since a court of competent authority had ordered the release of the IPOB leader, the Federal government has no legal or moral justification to continue holding him in captivity.”
