A fatal accident occurred in Amaekpu Ohafia, Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, on Wednesday morning, March 26, 2025, when a speeding trailer crushed a motorcycle operator and a schoolboy.
The tragic incident happened along the Ohafia-Arochukwu Expressway.
According to eyewitness reports, the trailer, which was loaded with chippings for road construction at Abam, had departed from Amasiri in Ebonyi State when it lost control and hit the victims. The young boy, who was on his way to school, and the motorcyclist, both lost their lives on the spot.
ABN TV gathered that the victims were the only sons of their respective parents, adding to the devastating impact of the tragedy.
Speaking on the incident, a community leader, Hon. Kalu Mba Kalu popularly Known as Mallam K, called on the Abia State Government to install speed bumps along the road to prevent future accidents caused by reckless driving.
Meanwhile, as of the time of this report, the body of the motorcycle operator remains trapped under the trailer, with efforts ongoing to retrieve and transfer him to the mortuary.
The accident sparked outrage among the youth of Amaekpu, who, in a fit of anger, set the trailer on fire. However, the intervention of the President General of the community led to the fire being extinguished. Security operatives, including the Nigerian Army, have since taken control of the situation to restore calm in the area.
