Office Of Senate Chief Whip Salutes Sen. Kalu On Conviction Reversal

The office of the Senate Chief Whip has congratulated the Federal lawmaker, saying it is delighted to use this medium to appreciate the Almighty God for using the Supreme Court to right the wrongs of the lower court.

ABN TV reports that these came after the pronouncement of the Supreme Court on Friday, May 8, 2020, nullifying the judgment of the Federal High court that sentenced the former governor of Abia state and Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu to the correctional center.

Office of the Senate Chief Whip also said it is grateful to the Executive arm of government, the leadership of the two chambers of the National Assembly, especially the Senate President and Speaker, Distinguished Senators and HON Members for the implicit confidence they expressed in Senator Kalu as their brother and colleague.

In a release signed by the Special Assistant/Head of Administration, Office of the Senate Chief Whip, National Assembly, Abuja, Barrister Emeka Nwala on Saturday, he says “We are indebted to the political class, and Nigerians especially the people of Abia state for standing by our principal throughout the period of incarceration.

“Similarly, we acknowledge the faith and confidence expressed by the entire constituents of Abia North Senatorial District especially for resisting monumental pressure from certain quarters to withdraw their support from their Senator and leader.

“Our gratitude also goes to all well-meaning Nigerians for believing in the fact that the people’s Senator will soon regain his freedom.

“Our appreciation will be incomplete without mentioning the good works of the hierarchy and personnel of the Correctional Center for ensuring the protection and wellbeing of our principal while he was with them. Same goes for the media for the professionalism displayed in reporting the proceedings.

“While appreciating everyone for their different roles and prayers, we note with thanksgiving that God works in mysterious ways in the affairs of men, proving that He alone has the final say.
