Prominent businessman and socialite, Obi Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has officially confirmed his appointment as the South-East Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, a political support group aligned with President Bola Tinubu.
The nightlife entrepreneur made the announcement on Tuesday via his Instagram page, revealing that Seyi Tinubu, son of the President, personally visited his home on Monday night to present his certificate of appointment.
“Last night, my long-time friend and brother, Seyi Tinubu, paid me a visit at my home. We had great conversations about everything,” Obi Cubana shared.
He noted that the meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss issues of national importance.
Responding to the mixed public reactions trailing his new political role, Obi Cubana defended his decision, emphasizing that meaningful change can only be achieved through constructive participation rather than isolation.
“I’m fully aware of the varied reactions it has sparked. My belief remains firm: lasting change comes from engagement, not standing apart,” he stated.
Reaffirming his commitment to the movement, he added, “I’ve learned that influence is limited from the outside — so yes, here we are! I am a City Boy through and through.”
Obi Cubana assured that his involvement in the movement would not compromise his values, community service, or leadership principles.
He described President Tinubu as “a City Boy and a man of commerce,” pledging to promote inclusiveness and unity in his new role.
“All of us need all of us to achieve our national aspirations, and I am committed to carrying every Nigerian along in all that I do,” he said.
The Anambra-born businessman further urged Nigerians to embrace tolerance and mutual respect, calling for collaborative efforts toward national development.

Obi Cubana also expressed gratitude to his supporters for their encouragement and pledged to work toward a more inclusive and prosperous Nigeria.
