Obi, Atiku, El-Rufai Pay Tribute At Buhari’s Graveside In Daura

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor visited the graveside of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State, on Wednesday after his burial.

Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in London at the age of 81, was laid to rest in his hometown on Tuesday. His funeral has attracted large crowds of mourners to Daura, with many notable Nigerians coming to pay their respects and offer condolences to the family.

Atiku Abubakar, arriving early alongside other dignitaries, described Buhari as “a man who dedicated his life to the service of the nation.” Peter Obi added, “In moments like this, we must remember the bonds that unite us beyond politics.”

Muhammadu Buhari served as Nigeria’s military head of state from 1983 to 1985 and later as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023.

His remains were flown into Nigeria on Tuesday morning, accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima and Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu. President Tinubu received the body at Katsina Airport, where a government delegation gathered to honour the late leader.

The body was then transported to Daura for burial, carried out according to Islamic rites.

The funeral, conducted with full military honours, took place in the garden where Buhari was often seen sitting quietly during his lifetime. Draped in the Nigerian flag, his coffin was brought to the graveside on a military trolley, while ceremonial gunshots were fired to honour his service as Nigeria’s former commander-in-chief.
