NYSC Abia Coordinator Urges Corps Members To Serve With Integrity (Photos)

The State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Abia State, Barr. (Mrs.) Gladys Adama, has charged corps members of the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream II to uphold integrity, discipline, and dedication throughout their service year.

She gave the charge on Tuesday, July 1st, 2025, during the official closing ceremony of the three-week orientation course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Umunna, Bende.

Addressing the corps members, Barr. Adama described the service year as a crucial period for personal growth, capacity development, and national contribution. She urged the corps members to see themselves not just as participants in a government program, but as leaders, innovators, and change-makers in their various fields.

“The NYSC year is more than a formality—it is a call to national duty,” she said. “You must serve with honesty, avoid negative influences, and remain law-abiding at all times.”

She further warned against indulging in behaviors that could tarnish their image or that of the NYSC, such as financial recklessness, night crawling, or getting entangled in communal conflicts. She emphasized that maintaining integrity is key to earning the trust and respect of their host communities.

Barr. Adama also encouraged the corps members to actively participate in post-camp skills acquisition programmes, which she noted are essential for building self-reliance in a competitive job market. She reminded them to proceed to their places of primary assignment (PPA) immediately after receiving their posting letters and to commence their duties without delay.

In her closing remarks, she urged them to remain security conscious, avoid night journeys, and respect the customs of their host communities. “Be good ambassadors of the NYSC wherever you are posted,” she advised.

The low-key event marked the end of the orientation exercise for the batch, during which the corps members engaged in training, drills, lectures, and skills acquisition activities. With their camp experience concluded, they are now set to be deployed across various sectors in the state to commence their one-year national service.
