The Publicity Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Chief Fabian Nwankwo, has described the news of former TC Chairman of Ukwa West, Chief Sylvanus Nwaji decamping to APC, as another attempt to mislead the general public.
In a statement released to newsmen in Umuahia, Chief Nwankwo stated that everyone in the state knows that Nwaji was a member of APC and political associate of former Governor of the State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu. He was appointed as Transition Council Chairman of Ukwa West LGA by the PDP led state government as part of its agenda to carry along all segments of the Abia society in its determined effort to ensure everyone is involved in the overall development of the state.
Nwankwo recalled how, despite misgivings and campaigns of calumny of some opposition elements in the State that the PDP was not prepared to allow for a free, fair and credible LG elections, one of the opposition parties, the Labour Party, won some wards in the election. According to him, this was a pointer to PDP’s resolve to run an all inclusive goverment and ensure the state’s political space remains open for all legitimate interests to thrive.

Continuing Nwankwo said, “even in his response to the reported Igbere private bedroom decampment ceremony, Nwaji accepted that he was never a member of the PDP but was merely appointed to serve in a PDP government out of the political benevolence of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and PDP”.
Continuing he said, “obviously the Nwaji story bears testimony to the political magnanimity of the PDP And Governor Ikpeazu that has ensured that people of different political persuasions and orientations are allowed to contribute to serve the state, including the nomination and election of a former EndSARS protester as a Deputy Chairman of a local government in the recent election in the state, without hindrance”.
He assured that the PDP in the state is stronger today than it was going into the 2019 election that it won with landslide margins, as according to him, “only those well known political moles and prostitutes who were hiding under the patronage of the government to sabotage the party are now being forced to publicly flee to stationary political vehicles that will keep them in well deserved perpetual political oblivion”.
