NUC Approves Reintroduction Of 5 Key Management Science Courses At MOUAU

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the re-establishment of five previously delisted management science courses at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), ABN TV reports.

The approved courses include BSc. Accounting, BSc. Marketing, BSc. Banking and Finance, BSc. Business Administration, and BSc. Economics.

In a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of MOUAU, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, and signed by the Acting Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar M. Girei, the NUC granted approval after a thorough verification exercise to assess the university’s resources.

According to the letter, the approval allows the full-time mode of study for these programs to commence from the 2024/2025 academic session at the university’s main campus.

The reintroduction of these courses marks a significant achievement for MOUAU, following the Federal Government’s 2016 directive that led to their initial removal. The government had ordered universities to discontinue programs that were not part of their original academic mandate. However, MOUAU had continuously advocated for their reinstatement, arguing that management science courses play a crucial role in equipping agricultural stakeholders with essential business and financial skills.

The approval has been widely attributed to the dedication and strategic leadership of Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, whose persistence and vision for transforming MOUAU into an entrepreneurial agricultural university were instrumental in securing the NUC’s endorsement.

This development is expected to expand academic opportunities for students while enhancing the university’s mission of integrating management and agricultural sciences for national development.
