Despite political efforts by some northern figures to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, former Minister of Water Resources, Muktar Shagari, has stated that the northern region holds no animosity toward the President and will support his second-term ambition.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Friday, Shagari emphasized the need for President Tinubu to be re-elected in order to continue and complete his policy agenda.
“The President is doing everything he can to make this country better.”
“Results are now being seen that the country is gradually moving.”
Shagari praised Tinubu’s efforts and affirmed that members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are fully behind the president.
He explained that the APC’s decision to declare Tinubu its sole candidate for 2027 was strategic, aimed at ensuring a focused implementation of the President’s plans without internal distractions.
“For President Tinubu to be able to implement the programmes he promised Nigerians, he needs a second term, and we, in the APC, believe in him, and we believe that he has the ability and capability to do that. So what we can do is to give him the moral support, the political support, and ensure that nobody distracts him by contesting against him,” he said.
Shagari also expressed optimism that the North will back Tinubu at the polls, especially in light of the improvements in regional security under his leadership.
“We will give him all the support he needs to win this election. And I want to say that there are people who are saying that, Oh no, Nigerians will not vote for him, northerners and so on. In the north, we have nothing against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he’s doing very well in the area of security, especially. I can tell it’s physically now Sokoto security is getting better and better,” he stated.
Reaffirming the party’s confidence in the president, Shagari concluded that the APC stands firmly behind Tinubu’s leadership and capability to steer the nation forward.
