Abia State Government says under the leadership of Governor Alex Otti, there will be no place for illegal issuance of revenue tickets to motorists, touting, illegal street trading and other activities that undermine efforts to make Aba and Umuahia modern cities.
This warning was issued by the Chairman of the State Harmonized Taskforce, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu made available to ABN TV
According to him, the governor has harmonized all approved tax and levies previously handled by different Task forces from different MDAs to fight double taxation and revenue leakage.
“Therefore, No more Illegal street trading, illegal motor parks, Roadside mechanic workshops, Conversion of streets and public roads for religious, social and commercial functions, No more touts operating and illegally issuing tickets to motorists on public roads and streets”, he stated in a release.
Prince Nwachukwu noted that the Harmonized Task Force is working with all the security agencies and are mandated to arrest and prosecute offenders in designated mobile courts.
Similarly, the Harmonized Taskforce Chairman reminded Abians that the restriction on the movement of trailers and other heavy trucks during daytime hours is still in force.
“The public is hereby notified that many trucks have recently been impounded by the Task Force for violating this restriction and failing to purchase the required PERMITS at the officially designated points. This action is intended to serve as a deterrent to others.
“Furthermore, the Harmonized Taskforce is also directing Trailers and other heavy-duty Trucks to offload their goods at night to ensure smooth flow of traffic during the day”, he stated.
