Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial: Court Warns Against Live Streaming As Judge Reprimands Defence Team

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a stern warning against live streaming and improper use of social media during the ongoing trial of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, on 21st May 2025.

The judge’s warning followed a complaint from prosecution counsel Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), who raised concerns over alleged live postings of court documents and proceedings by a member of the defence team, Aloy Ejimakor.

“This case is too sensitive to be trivialised on social media,” Awomolo told the court, while recommending a total ban on phones within the courtroom.

Justice Omotosho, who had earlier granted accelerated hearing in Kanu’s case due to his prolonged detention, reminded both parties to act professionally and avoid conduct that may attract sanctions. He cautioned Ejimakor directly, warning that such misconduct could lead to disbarment.

“All parties must behave responsibly. The judiciary cannot be reduced to a spectacle,” the judge said.
