Nnamdi Kanu: UK Parliament To Debate Repatriation Today

The UK parliament is set to discuss the arrest and detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

ABN TV earlier reported that Kanu was arrested in Kenya and brought back to Nigeria under suspicious circumstances.

His lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor claimed that his client was kidnapped and brought back to the country ‘unconscious’ allegedly after being tortured by Kenyan authorities.

However, a notice on the parliament’s official website reveals that Lord Alton of Liverpool would raise the issue at the House of Lords during plenary and will query the Kenyan government on the separatist leader’s transfer to Nigeria.

The document reads, “Lord Alton of Liverpool to ask Her Majesty’s Government what assessment they have made of (1) the alleged role of the government of Kenya in the detention and alleged mistreatment of Nigerian activist Nnamdi Kanu, (2) the circumstances surrounding the transfer of Mr. Kanu to Nigeria against his will, and (3) of any assistance being provided to him by the High Commission in Abuja. HL1665”.

On June 27th 2021, Kanu was brought back to Nigeria and arraigned in court on Tuesday 29th of June by the Department of state security services, DSS before Justice Binta Nyarko. She remanded Kanu in the custody of the secret police until July 26th for a continuation of his case.

Kanu jumped bail in 2017 and has been on the run since. He is facing several charges of terrorism, treasonable felony and possession of illegal firearms.
