Nnamdi Kanu Likely To Foster Peace If Released – Reps Deputy Spokesman

Deputy Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese said, the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB is likely to foster peace in the South East geographical zone.

He expressed the belief that President Bola Tinubu’s administration would seize the opportunity of cases being made on Kanu’s behalf by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and other prominent citizens to release him and embark on peace moves and reconciliation in the Southeast region.

The lawmaker stated this while speaking to newsmen in Abuja, explaining that some of them got involved in championing the release of Kanu strictly in the interest of peace, adding that they were happy too, that the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu who hails from the troubled zone was raising diplomatic issues in canvassing for his release.

Agbese further opined that the release of Kanu would ease erroneous beliefs of marginalization of the people of the South East.

“Another wrong idea lubricating separatist groups is marginalization and I think his release would ease feelings of marginalization.”

According to Agbese, Kanu’s freedom would leverage confidence, equality and trust that has been restored in the current administration, particularly since Tinubu has demonstrated his dedication to uniting the country, bridging gaps, and fostering a sense of belonging among citizens.

He said: “While we are all aware of Kanu’s past actions, I believe that the current atmosphere of unity and understanding presents a chance for redemption,” he added.

“I must commend the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ben Kalu, for his tireless efforts in promoting peace and understanding in the region. His commitment to building bridges of understanding and fostering dialogue has created an environment conducive to reconciliation and growth.

“The release of Nnamdi Kanu would be a significant step towards healing the wounds of the past and promoting national unity. We would like for the government to consider this call and work towards a peaceful resolution.

“We are aware that Kanu has also agreed to be one of the champions of the Peace In South East project initiated by the Deputy Speaker. For this reason and others, I and my colleagues are in support of his release. We trust the Deputy Speaker to champion advocacy for the region’s regeneration.”
