Nnamdi Kanu Appears In Court As Brother, Lawyer Remain In Kuje Prison (Photos)

The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, on Thursday appeared before the Federal High Court in Abuja for the continuation of his trial amid tight security.

ABN TV correspondents at the court confirmed that Kanu arrived in the morning under heavy escort from operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS). The hearing drew the attention of journalists, observers, and supporters who gathered outside the court premises demanding his freedom.

Meanwhile, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, the younger brother of the IPOB leader, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, one of Kanu’s lawyers, and others remain remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre following their arrest during Monday’s #FreeNnamdiKanu protest in Abuja. Both men, alongside several others, were arraigned earlier in the week and ordered to remain in custody pending further court proceedings.

Supporters expressed mixed emotions-relieved that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was brought to court, yet concerned over the continued detention of his brother and legal counsel, describing it as an attempt to intimidate those advocating for his release.
