The popular Nmuri Bailey Bridge along Umuahia Bende Ozu ABAM Ohafia Road Route F107 which was temporarily closed for rehabilitation has finally reopened after it was certified fit for vehicular traffic again following the successful completion of the job.
Hon. Uko Nkole, member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia federal constituency who facilitated the project made the announcement on Thursday in a statement made available to ABN TV.
The bridge was certified fit for use after inspection by relevant key stakeholders.
While thanking road users for their patience during the period of the bridge rehabilitation, Hon. Nkole assured of his readiness to continue attracting and completing projects that will touch the lives of the people for good.
“This afternoon after joint site visit with FERMA field officers Council Ohafia Monarchs and Youth leaders Road Transport workers I am pleased to inform us that the FERMA bridge unit team has certified the overhauled Nmuri Bailey Bridge along Umuahia Bende Ozu ABAM Ohafia Road Route F107 fit for vehicular traffic again and is now open to the public for use.
“It will be recalled that the Bridge which collapsed early last year.

“Following my interventions through the relevant government agents FERMA and Federal Ministry of Works and housing moved to site for repairs and deliver a new brand bridge respectively.
“This led to temporarily closed down on March 2nd, 2021, to enable FERMA effect necessary repairs. The repairs have just been Completed, necessitating it’s reopening.
“While this was a temporary measure to reinstate the dilapidated Bailey bridge I am also happy to observe that Work is seriously ongoing on the new Concrete Bridge being constructed beside the old one.
“While we regret the obvious inconveniences Commuters might have experienced as a result of the temporary closure, I will like to reiterate my total commitment towards ensuring timely appropriation of funds to the Contractor to ensure it’s timely completion and also to continually attract the delivery of democracy dividends to our people,” he said.
