The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Abia State Chapter, on Tuesday stormed the Abia State House of Assembly Complex, Umuahia, to protest the alleged intimidation of members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) in the state legislature.
Led by the Abia State Chairman of the NLC, Comrade Okoro Ogbonnaya, the labour union condemned what it described as the unlawful actions of some lawmakers who allegedly broke the chains and padlocks used by PASAN to secure the Assembly complex during the ongoing strike by parliamentary staff.
Speaking at the Assembly premises, Comrade Ogbonnaya warned that organised labour in Abia State would not tolerate any form of intimidation or harassment of legislative workers, insisting that workers’ rights must be respected at all times.

The NLC demanded that the Abia State House of Assembly should immediately compensate for the chains and padlocks allegedly destroyed by the lawmakers during the incident, which reportedly occurred last week.
Comrade Ogbonnaya further disclosed that the national leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress had already forwarded details of the damaged property to relevant authorities, adding that labour would continue to closely monitor developments until the matter is properly addressed.
