George Washington University has appointed a United States-based Nigerian sportswoman, Ganiyat Adeduntan, as the head coach of the women’s basketball team.
Adeduntan was the coach of Colgate University women’s basketball until her new appointment was made known last week.
The basketball professional trainer served as the head coach at Colgate University from 2021 to 2025.
During her tenure, she led the team to great feats, achieving back-to-back 20-victory seasons and setting a school record with 23 wins in the 2024/2025 season.
Before her coaching career at Colgate, she was an assistant coach at GWU from 2017 to 2021.
She contributed to an Atlantic 10 Conference championship and the National Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament appearance in 2018.
According to GWSports, the online media outlet of GWU athletic teams, the Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics, Michael Lipitz, described Adeduntan as “the right leader to return GW women’s basketball to the top of the A-10 and the national stage.”
