The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a mobile policeman, Ahmed Mohammed, for allegedly stabbing a personnel of the Nigerian Legion to death.

The 28-year-old victim, Chinedu Edwin, was killed on Saturday in Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state, during the monthly environmental sanitation in the town.

ABN TV learnt that the arrested mobile policeman also inflicted knife cuts on another officer of the Nigerian Legion, Olusegun Afolabi.

Both the late Edwin and Afolabi were said to be on official assignment in Ota when the erring policeman attacked them.

The state Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson, Wednesday paid a condolence visit to the state command of the Nigerian Legion in Abeokuta, where he stated that the killer cop was already in custody undergoing orderly room trial.

According to him, the arrested policeman is serving with the MOPOL 2 in Lagos State.
Ebrimson, who also commiserated with the family of the late Edwin, assured that the mobile policeman would be dismissed and prosecuted for murder in accordance with the laws of the land.

Briefing reporters, the Director, Tactical Communication and Information of the Nigerian Legion, Corps Commander Akinwunmi Alonge, said some of his men were deployed in Ota on the fateful day to monitor the level of compliance with the monthly environmental sanitation in the state.

Alonge, however, said it was unfortunate that Edwin lost his life to the recklessness of a security operative.

According to him, the slain personnel hailed from Akuma in Oru Local Government Area of Imo State and was married with three children.
