Nigeria Yet To Defeat Insecurity Because Criminals Are United — Sen. Okorocha

Senator representing Imo West, Sen. Rochas Okorocha has attributed the inability of the country’s security forces to defeat insecurity, particularly banditry and kidnapping to the unity of purpose that exists among the criminal elements.

He, therefore, lamented that division among Nigerians has hampered the fight against insecurity.

Wondering why estimated 50,000 criminals have held over 200m Nigerians by the jugular for a long period, the former Imo governor while speaking during plenary at the Senate on Wednesday, monitored by ABN TV insisted that Nigeria must unite now than ever to fight insecurity as a united force.

While calling for carefulness in handling security matters in the country, he expressed sadness that the wall of division in the country is becoming wider.

“A criminal remains a criminal irrespective of whatever form or shape he or she has. We must learn to separate criminals from where they come from and deal with them as criminals, such that when we mention herdsmen, it does not look like a Fulani man attacking a Yoruba man.

“Or when we mention kidnappers, it does not look like somebody from the South or South East is attacking the North.

“Or when we mention Boko Haram, it does not look like a Southerner is attacking anyone because these bunch of criminals are gradually finding their way in creating a wall of division.

“The unity of this country is very key at this moment, and we must do everything to protect it.

“One thing that gives me concern is, and I keep wondering we do not have probably more than 50,000 criminals in this country from a record I have seen.

“But my question is, how can 50,000 criminals defeat 200m people. It then means that the 50,000 criminals are united while the 200m people are divided. We need to unite and be able to tag these criminals by their names and not where they come from” he said.
