The Nigeria Police Force has reassured Nigerians of sustained security vigilance across the country following rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and their potential global implications.
In a statement issued on March 1, 2026, by the Force Public Relations Officer, Ag. ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, affirmed the unwavering commitment of the Force to the protection of lives, property, and national peace.
According to the police chief, although Nigeria remains stable and its internal security situation firmly under control, proactive and intelligence-led policing measures have been reinforced nationwide to forestall any potential spillover effects from international developments.
The Ag. IGP has directed Commissioners of Police in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to heighten surveillance and intelligence gathering. Particular attention, he said, is being given to the North West, North East, and North Central zones.
He further instructed state commands to strengthen collaboration with traditional and religious leaders, intensify visibility policing around worship centres and public spaces, and swiftly address any attempt by individuals or groups to exploit global events to incite unrest or sectarian tension.
The Force reiterated that Nigeria will not serve as a theatre for foreign conflicts, warning that any attempt to import external ideological or religious tensions into the country would be met with the full weight of the law.
IGP Disu called on community leaders across the country to continue promoting peace, urging citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, while promptly reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police formation.
The Nigeria Police Force maintained that it remains resolute, prepared, and fully committed to safeguarding every Nigerian and ensuring national security at all times.
