The Rivers State House of Assembly is currently under demolition on Wednesday as about 10 bulldozers drove into the premises of the Assembly complex
PUNCH Online reports that the factional Speaker, Edison Ehie, led other lawmakers loyal to the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to hold a sitting early on Wednesday before the demolition began.
It was gathered that Ehie, during the session, said the complex was due for repairs following the explosion that rocked the building on October 30, 2023, saying the governor would provide an alternative place for them to sit in the meantime.
However, users of the social media app, X (formerly Twitter), have begun to react to the news.
One tweep, @ruffydfire tweeted, “Wike and Fubara watch. It’s now 2-2.”
Another user, @IU_Wakilii stated, “Governor Sim Fubara has ordered the demolition of the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex. Now this is madness.”
One user, @ChuksEricE, tweeted, “Like I said earlier, I’m not in support of Gov. Fubara or Wike, both of them are birds of the same feathers, But you see any fight against Wike is a good fight. Dazzol.”
Another user, @olataiwo6 tweeted, “This River state type of politics is something else Gov Fubara to demolition Rivers state house assembly this morning! Abi na play he dey play?”
Also, @JustKingss wrote, “I love the courage of Fubara to fight Wike. I’m sure Wike never saw this coming. Being a loyalist to you doesn’t mean you should take me for granted. Fubara must have surrounded himself with good advisors because his moves towards fighting Wike is top-notch.”
The crisis rocking the Rivers State House of Assembly took a new turn on Monday with 27 members defecting from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the state to the All Progressives Congress, PUNCH Online reports.
The lawmakers cited division within the PDP as the primary reason for their defection to the APC.
The affected lawmakers are said to be the ones loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
However, the state APC chapter has said it is open to receiving more defectors from the PDP in the state, describing the defection of the 27 members of the State House of Assembly as a welcome development.
