NEDC’s Activities Positively Impacting South East, Other Zones – Onuigbo

The South East representative on the board of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), Hon. Sam Onuigbo, has stated that the impact of the commission’s projects is being felt beyond the North East, extending to the South East and other geopolitical zones of the country.

Onuigbo made this remark in Umuahia on Tuesday while receiving members of the World Igbo Youths Assembly, a youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. The group visited to honour him for the various developmental projects he facilitated in Abia State during his tenure in the National Assembly.

He emphasized the need for a proactive approach to tackling insecurity and socio-economic challenges in any part of the country before they escalate and spread to other regions.

“The North East Development Commission was established to address the effects of Boko Haram insurgency and climate change, which have contributed immensely to insecurity in that region,” he explained. “Part of the insecurity we are facing started from the North East and now it has spread. But if we are able to arrest it in one area, it would not come to other areas. So, what we are doing in the North East will also impact meaningfully on the people of the South East.”

Onuigbo also urged members of the World Igbo Youth Assembly to shun the pursuit of money and instead focus on the development and welfare of the Igbo nation. He thanked President Bola Tinubu for approving funding for the ongoing construction of the Umuahia-Ikwuano-Ikot Ekpene Federal Road in Abia State.

Speaking earlier, the President-General of the World Igbo Youth Assembly, Comrade James Ajuzie, said the group is committed to promoting good governance in Igbo-speaking states and discouraging the rising obsession with wealth among the youth.

He praised Onuigbo for his efforts and assured him of the Assembly’s support in future engagements.
