The Minister said the death of Prof. Obioma, a renowned mathematician came to him as a rude shock, stating that his departure came at a time his experiential sagacity was needed most in the country’s education, having been appointed to head the indigenous examination body barely a year ago.

In a condolence message personally endorsed by the Minister on Wednesday, he noted that Prof. Obioma whom he described as one of Abia’s brightest sons has never hidden his commitment to leave a lasting legacy in the sector through series of transformation he initiated as NECO Registrar in few months he was on office.

I am deeply pained by the death of Prof. Godswill Obioma, a nationalist whose mathematical prowess has brought honour to our dear state, Abia and the country at large.

“His death struck me shockingly that I found it difficult to believe that my brother whom I congratulated just about a year ago following his appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari is no more.

“I am however consoled that he lived an impactful life and contributed meaningfully in raising a generation upon whom his footprints are seen. As an educationist, his selfless services in building the sector cannot be forgotten in a hurry.

“I therefore commiserate with the Federal Government of Nigeria, government and people of Abia State over the loss of this genius.

“I equally send condolence message to his wife and children over the loss of their father. It is my earnest prayer that God Almighty shall rest his gentle soul” the Minister said.
