NECO: Abia ranks first, Katsina last in 2024 SSCE

NECO has announced the 2024 SSCE internal exam results, showing that 60.55% of the 828,284 candidates scored five credits, including Maths and English.

Prof Dantana Wushishi, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NECO, revealed this information when he presented the results to reporters at the Council’s main office in Minna, Niger State on Thursday.

Wushishi disclosed that 1,147,597 candidates, which is 83.90% of the total, achieved five credits or more, regardless of their performance in English Language and Mathematics.

He observed that of the total 1,376,423 candidates who enrolled for the test, only 1,367,736 actually took it, with 702,112 being male and 665,624 being female.

He stated that the amount of candidates engaging in different types of misconduct decreased by 30.1 percent from 12,030 in 2023 to 8,437 in 2024.

The registrar also mentioned that there are 2,267 candidates with special needs. 1,104 individuals have hearing impairment, 348 have visual impairment, 342 have albinism, 237 have autism, and 236 have low vision, according to the breakdown of special needs.

He also disclosed that in the 2024 SSCE, 40 schools were caught engaging in mass cheating across 17 states, and 21 supervisors were suggested for blacklisting in 12 states for various reasons such as poor supervision, aiding cheating, leaving their post, demanding bribes, being intoxicated, and neglecting their duties.

He further stated that the performance analysis by states showed Abia State leading other states in the country as 83.40 per cent of its candidates scored five credits and above, including Mathematics and English language, while Katsina State ranked bottom on the table with 2.42 percent
