Abia State Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu has said Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC should be held responsible for poor quality of federal roads in the State, denying the involvement of the state in executing shoddy road contracts in the state.
The Commissioner in a phone-in radio programme on Friday in Umuahia monitored by ABN TV wondered why the roads executed by NDDC in Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and other states are of higher quality while the ones executed in Abia are of lower quality.
“What I notice is that, unlike other states where contractors deliver high-quality projects, when they come to Abia they deliver poor quality jobs. So there is the need for our people to do due diligence” he said.
He lamented that Uzuakoli-Abiriba-Ohafia road executed by NDDC contractor went bad within six months after construction, saying the people are suffering.
He also said Uzuakoli-Ozuitem road attracted by the senator representing Abia North, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu has gone bad as a result of poor quality job executed by NDDC.
While calling on Abians to shun politicising issues of development, he called on Sen. Kalu to accept responsibility for the quality of the roads he attracted the same way he took glory for attracting them.
