NBM Of Africa – South/South Region Sets Mathematics Quiz Competition, To Fight Mathematical Phobia

A pro-freedom group, Neo Black Movement of Africa Worldwide, South/South Region has set a quiz competition with a grand prize of N100,000 at the state level.

The first and second runners up are expected smile home with N70,000 and N50,000 respectively. This cash prize is in addition to the certificates and trophies winners will go home with.

During the kickoff of the first round of the quiz competition in Port Harcourt, Rivers State at the Aladumo International Schools, Government Reservation Area (GRA), Port Harcourt, on Saturday 31st July, both government and private schools were well represented, NBM of Africa Public Relations Officer, Mr. Oluwatosin Dixon said in a press statement.

The group explained that the idea is to organize the competitions across South-South states of Rivers, Bayelsa, Abia, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states, while three winners to represent each state will contest to emerge regional winner, adding that the overall aim was to remove the phobia pupils have for mathematics, which he described as a fundamental in our daily lives.

The statement said, “It was decided, in conjunction with the South-South Regional President, Engr. OYIBO Emuobor and supported by a known Philanthropist Chief (Dr.) JohnBosco Ozigbu of Burnsville Integrated Services, that we start with the schools in Rivers State. Invitations were given to a great number of Senior Secondary schools in Rivers State, both government owned and private schools.

The quiz competition finally took place on Saturday 31st July 2021 at Aladumo International Schools, GRA, Port Harcourt. The competition is part of our contributions to reward excellent students and schools in order to refocus them to education and literacy.

The objective of this competition is to remove phobia and inculcate the love for mathematics. Also, it’s geared towards inspiring our SSS students to be more confident in themselves mathematically and enhance their individual performances in both internal and external examinations during their academic pursuits.”

He added that certificates of award were given to all the pupils that participated: “At the end of the first round, we had to carry out elimination process by which few qualified students who passed were selected into the second round, which will take place Saturday 16th October 2021.”

Pupils of GraceLand Int’l Sch, Bishop Okoye Spiritan Sec. Sch, Charles Dale Memorial Int’l Sch, Aladumo Int’l High Sch, Hallel College, Fed. Govt. College, Seacrest Preparatory Sch, Emarid College and FGGC-Abuloma qualified for the second and final round.
