The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has appointed Dr. Monday Oyekachi Ubani, SAN, as the Chairman of the NBA Electoral Reform Committee.
The committee is tasked with enhancing the responsiveness of electoral processes to public expectations, a crucial step in strengthening democracy and ensuring fair and transparent elections.
Dr. Ubani’s appointment aligns with the NBA’s core objective of fostering democracy as a pillar of a just and prosperous society. His selection has been widely praised, with many describing it as putting a “round peg in a round hole,” given his vast experience and commitment to legal and electoral reforms.

In addition to this role, Dr. Ubani has been co-opted into the NBA National Executive Council (NEC), where he is expected to contribute to the growth and development of the association. NEC meetings serve as a platform for bar leaders to address pressing issues affecting the legal profession and the judiciary.
A seasoned legal practitioner, Dr. Ubani is the principal partner of the law firm Ubani & Co., which he established in 1992. He previously served as Chairman of the NBA Ikeja Branch (2012–2014) and later as the 2nd National Vice President of the NBA (2016–2018). From 2021 to 2023, he chaired the NBA Section of Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL), where he made significant contributions to the legal landscape.
Dr. Ubani’s appointment further underscores his dedication to shaping the future of the legal profession in Nigeria and beyond.
