…..President Tinubu Pledges Improved Welfare, Modern Equipment For Police Officers
The Federal Government of Nigeria, on Monday, April 7, 2025, celebrated the maiden edition of National Police Day with a grand ceremony at the Eagle Square, Abuja.
The event, which was organized to recognize and appreciate the sacrifices and contributions of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in maintaining peace and security, featured colourful parades and tactical displays by various police units.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima, reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the welfare of police officers and providing them with modern equipment and technology to enhance their operational capacity.
He commended the courage, resilience, and sacrifices of men and women of the Nigeria Police Force in the fight against insecurity across the country.
In his remarks, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, described the National Police Day as a significant milestone in the history of the Force.
He appreciated President Tinubu for approving April 7 every year as National Police Day, stressing that the Force will continue to uphold professionalism, strengthen its relationship with communities, and remain committed to protecting lives and property.
The IGP also assured Nigerians that the Police would deepen ongoing reforms to reposition the Force for better service delivery.
Highlights of the event included a spectacular parade and procession by police personnel, display of tactical equipment such as Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) robots, EOD disposal vehicles, Special Intervention Squad demonstrations, K9 displays, Police Mobile Force drills, Counter Terrorism Unit activities, and peacekeeping equipment.
The historic event was attended by top government officials, members of the National Assembly, service chiefs, retired senior police officers, members of the Police Veterans Association, captains of industries, and other dignitaries.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement, expressed the appreciation of the Police leadership to all guests, stakeholders, and partners who contributed to the success of the maiden National Police Day celebration.
He assured that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to build on the momentum to strengthen community relations and foster a safer Nigeria.
