There was uncertainty Saturday at the ongoing governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, as Aliyu Bello, a witness for the ruling All Progressive Congress APC, testified against his party.

The first witness called by the 2nd respondent was Bello, the Secretary of APC, Nasarawa State, who was cross-examined by the petitioner’s counsel and could not point out the forms used to allegedly cancel the election results at the Polling Units level in Ashige Ward, where the PDP and its candidate Dr. David Ombugadu won the election but whose scores were wrongly excluded.

The witness under cross-examination further contradicted himself when he stated that the election in Ashige Ward was canceled owing to violence, as opposed to alleged over-voting, as stated in the records provided by the 2nd Respondent.

The witness also testified that the results were incorrectly calculated and recorded, although first agreeing that the results were properly compiled. He maintains that it was incorrectly compiled. And he never approved the employment of BVAS in any of these locations.

He also acknowledged that the only source where results can be accurately compiled is INEC BVAS IREV.

The APC witness came forth to declare that he is unaware of ECGPU40. Based on his admission, it is clear that elections were only canceled in polling units and not in Electoral Wards.

Audu Sule, another witness, contradicts himself as well because he was unable to identify the forms used to supposedly invalidate election results.

Following today’s proceedings, the meeting was delayed to the 24th, 26th, and 27th of August 2023 for the continuation of the defense.
