The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) called on all Muslims running for the Senate Presidency to drop down in favor of a Christian counterpart from Southern Nigeria on Wednesday.
Prof. Ishaq Akintola, Executive Director of MURIC, stated in a statement that as a major stakeholder in Nigerian affairs, they have followed the imbroglio that greeted the Muslim-Muslim ticket with keen interest and how it resulted in Nigeria having a Muslim President-elect and a Muslim Vice President-elect.
He added, “In view of this outcome and considering the multi-religious character of our dear country, Nigeria, it is our considered opinion that the post of senate president should go to a Southern Christian.”

Nigeria, he claims, needs the participation of both Muslims and Christians and that only such partnership will bring about peace and development in the country.
He believed that while being the majority group in the country, Muslims should not hold all the top positions and that Muslims must be willing to share power with their Christian counterparts.
