Chelsea has signed Moises Caicedo from Brighton for a British record fee of £115 million.
On Monday, the Blues released a statement announcing their latest signing.
The midfielder agreed to an eight-year contract extension that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2031, with the option of an additional year.
“Chelsea is delighted to announce the signing of Ecuador international Moises Caicedo,” the club said in a statement.
“The 21-year-old midfielder has agreed an eight-year contract at Stamford Bridge, with a club option of a further year, and joins from Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion.”
Brighton had initially accepted Liverpool’s £111 million deal for the Ecuador international.
Caicedo, on the other hand, has rejected the opportunity to join Liverpool, stating that his focus is on Chelsea, who would later submit an upgraded offer to end the year-long chase.
“I am so happy to join Chelsea! I am so excited to be here at this big club and I didn’t have to think twice when Chelsea called me, I just knew I wanted to sign for the club. It’s a dream come true to be here and I can’t wait to start with the team,” he said.
Caicedo, regarded as one of the top young defensive midfielders in the game, joined Brighton in February 2021 for just £4.5 million.
He appeared in 53 games for Brighton.
