Military Take-Over in West African Countries May Engulf Africa If Allowed To Fester – Minister

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar has warned against the unconstitutional change in government in West Africa. The Minister described such as solely a regional problem.

The Foreign Affairs Minister sounded this warning during the 10th Annual High-level Seminar on the Promotion of Peace and Security in Africa, meant to assist three new African Members states that assumed their seats at the UN Security Council, for them to have headway towards addressing Peace and Security Issues on the Continent.

A statement by his media aide indicates Yusuf Tuggar insisted that change in government could snowball into engulfing the entire African continent and add to the challenges of terrorism and other cross-border criminalities in parts of the West African sub-region and the Sahel.

At the end of the seminar in Oman, Algeria, Yusuf Tuggar further said looking at the military take-over as a West African problem; he notes that it is important to address the root causes of military power seizure and proffering solutions. Other factors to consider, he says are issues of governance, election processes, proliferation of arms in Libya, failure of EU’s Sahel Strategy, climate change, complex border areas, and many more.

The Foreign Affairs Minister advised that bringing about development would be more coercive and more coordinated when we don’t give in to military takeover pressure on social media as well.
