US digital giant Meta has blocked several WhatsApp accounts believed to be connected to an Iranian hacking group, APT42.

These accounts were used to target politicians and public figures, including individuals associated with the administrations of President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.

According to Meta, the accounts were used to connect and bring people together in countries other than the United States, including “Israel, Palestine, Iran, and the United Kingdom.”

“Their efforts appear to have focused on political or diplomatic officials as well as public figures, including individuals associated with the administrations of President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump,” the company said in a statement.

The activity was attributed to APT42, an Iranian hacking group “known for its campaigns using simple phishing techniques.”
