Argentina captain Lionel Messi has been nominated for three ESPY 2023 awards.
ABC, an American television network, is presenting the honor.
Messi had a tremendous year, scoring seven goals and contributing three assists to help Argentina win the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
In the final versus France at the Lusail Iconic Stadium, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner scored twice.
Messi’s effort has been nominated for an ESPY Award for Best Championship effort. Other contenders include Nikola Jokic (NBA), Rose Zhang (LPGA), and Leon Edwards (UFC).
The 35-year-old was also nominated in the category of greatest athlete, with Aaron Judge (Baseball), Patrick Mahomes (NFL), and Nikola Jokic (NBA).
Along with Aitana Bonmati, Erling Haaland, and Sophia Smith, the former Barcelona captain is a nominee for Best Soccer Player.
Messi was named best international athlete at the ESPYs in 2015.
