Massive Crowd As G-5 Governors Kick Off PDP Campaign In Enugu

The G-5 governors of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, descended on Enugu State on Friday to launch the party’s campaign.

Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Governor of Enugu State and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Enugu North Senatorial District, attended the event, as did Governors Nyesom Ezenwo Wike of Rivers State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

Okezie Ikpeazu, the governor of Abia State, who is still mourning the late PDP governorship candidate for Abia State, Prof. Uche Ikonne, was absent.

According to DAILY POST, the event’s venue, Michael Okpara Square in Enugu, was completely sold out.

The G5 governors also supported Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s senatorial bid to represent Enugu North in the upcoming election.

All the party candidates for the House of Representatives, Senate, and Governorship were given party flags.

Chimaroke Nnamani, the candidate for the Enugu East senatorial zone and former governor of the state, was the only one who did not receive the party’s flag.

His inability to receive the party’s flag could be linked to the suspension order issued by the party’s national leadership last week for alleged anti-party activities.

He was also absent from the event.

Dr. Peter Mbah, the party’s governorship candidate in the state, responded on behalf of the other contestants, praising Ugwuanyi for ensuring a secure environment, quality education, rural development, peace, and security, and stressing that this handled the massive gathering and rush for investment in the state by investors.

“Mindful of the consolidation of these outstanding achievements, we have vowed to grow the economy, provide dividends of democracy and build upon the transformation that Ugwuanyi has brought to take Enugu to the next level.

“Since the beginning of the fourth republic, Enugu has remained the hope of PDP. We have carried the PDP banner with great pride and we are poised to continue with it,” he said.

Mbah added that the “gathering is to renew the mandate of our great party”, stressing that they made it possible because of the trust the people have in those who have led the state from the PDP.

He appreciated the G-5 governors’ support in demonstrating leadership and remaining steadfast in the party’s pursuit of justice, equity, and fairness.

Governor Ugwuanyi had previously expressed gratitude to the people of the state for their support for the PDP since 1999 and expressed a hope that they would do so again in 2023 for all the party’s candidates.

Governors Makinde, Ortom, and Wike all praised the people for their support for Ugwuanyi and the PDP and tasked them with ensuring that they delivered their wards and polling units to the party on election day.

Wike had described Ugwuanyi as “a dependable, courageous good man with whom you can go to war with your two eyes closed,” emphasizing that the group would continue to support all of his activities and would extend the same support to the party’s governorship candidate.

At the event, a coalition of 12 registered political parties endorsed Mbah and other PDP candidates for the 2023 elections, saying Ugwuanyi’s promotion of good governance in the state motivated them to do so.
