Mao Ohuabunwa Disowns PDP Communiqué Attack On Gov. Otti

The Media Office of Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, a former federal lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District, has strongly distanced the Senator from a controversial portion of a communiqué issued at the end of a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders’ meeting held on August 30, 2025.

The meeting, which took place at Senator Ohuabunwa’s country home, had aimed to foster unity and strengthen the PDP’s prospects in Abia North. However, a specific section of the communiqué—item five—sparked public attention for appearing to cast aspersions on the performance of the current Abia State administration led by Governor Alex Chioma Otti.

In a press statement signed by his media office on August 31, 2025, and made available to ABN TV, Senator Ohuabunwa made it clear that he neither authored, endorsed, nor supported the contentious portion of the communiqué, which questioned the correlation between the state’s financial inflows and the level of development under Governor Otti.

“The insinuation contained in item Five is not only misleading but also mischievous, and it attempts to sow discord where harmony, solidarity, and mutual respect should thrive,” the statement read.

Senator Ohuabunwa emphasized that as a statesman, party leader, and patriot, he remains committed to progressive governance and would never engage in politics of bitterness. He affirmed his belief that governance efforts, when impactful, deserve collective encouragement irrespective of political affiliations.

“Governance, regardless of partisan leanings, should always be encouraged when it brings tangible dividends to the people,” he maintained.

He urged the public, especially PDP members and the people of Abia North, to disregard the offending item in the communiqué, stressing that it does not reflect his views nor the spirit of the meeting.

The statement reaffirmed Senator Ohuabunwa’s unwavering commitment to the peace, unity, and prosperity of Abia North, Abia State, and Nigeria as a whole, while pledging continued engagement in politics that uplifts the collective interest.
