Abia State Police Command has announced the arrest of one John, a resident of Amachara Umuahia for allegedly kidnapping himself on 13th of November 2023 and demanding a N3m ransom, a money he intended to use in settling debt.
The PPRO of the command, ASP Maureen Chinaka who announced this in a statement on Saturday said John claimed to have been kidnapped by unknown assailants as he went to withdraw money along Bank Road in Umuahia.
The command in responding to the purported kidnap activated its surveillance intelligence and traced it to Wisdom Guest House where it was discovered that there was no evidence of external involvement in the alleged crime.
According to Chinaka, “Mr. John confessed to orchestrating his kidnap and demanded a ransom of 3 million naira, which after negotiation reduced to 2 million naira from his family, as a desperate measure to raise funds to clear substantial debts. The matter is under discreet investigation
“The public is hereby advised to desist from such criminal acts, Perpetrators are subject to the full extent of the law, with a felony charge and a potential Ten years imprisonment.”
