Man United Agree £65 Million Deal To Sign Brentford Star Bryan Mbeumo

Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Cameroon international Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford in a deal worth an initial £65 million ($87 million), as new manager Ruben Amorim accelerates his plans to rebuild the club’s faltering attack.

Mbeumo, 25, caught Amorim’s eye after a standout season in the Premier League, scoring 20 goals in 38 appearances for Brentford. His performances also attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur—now managed by former Brentford boss Thomas Frank—but United’s improved third bid sealed the move after two previous offers were rejected.

The deal also includes up to £6 million in performance-related add-ons, taking the potential total to £71 million.

Mbeumo is expected to complete his medical in time to join United’s pre-season tour of the United States, which begins on Tuesday. He will become the club’s third summer signing following the arrivals of Wolves striker Matheus Cunha and teenage Paraguayan defender Diego Leon.

Amorim, who took charge after United’s dismal 2024–25 campaign, is leading a major overhaul of the squad. The Red Devils finished a shocking 15th in the Premier League—their worst league performance since 1973–74—and lost 1-0 to Tottenham in the Europa League final.

Underwhelming seasons from strikers Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee have forced Amorim to act decisively. Reports suggest he has told Alejandro Garnacho to find a new club, while Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are both expected to depart following loan spells at Aston Villa and Chelsea, respectively.

Despite missing out on Champions League qualification—estimated to have cost the club around £70 million—United have pressed ahead with significant investment. The £62.5 million spent on Cunha and the move for Mbeumo underscore Amorim’s intent to inject pace, creativity, and clinical finishing into a stagnant forward line.

Mbeumo’s versatility is seen as a key asset. Comfortable on either wing or in more central attacking roles, he brings six years of Premier League experience, having joined Brentford from French side Troyes in 2019.

During his time with the Bees, Mbeumo racked up 70 goals and 51 assists in 242 appearances across all competitions. He played a pivotal role in Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League in 2021 and helped them secure a 10th-place finish in the 2024–25 season.

His arrival is expected to add much-needed firepower and dynamism to a United side desperate to return to former glories under their ambitious new manager.
