As Nigeria gradually heads to a nationwide lockdown over COVID-19, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC) Worldwide has cautioned President Muhammadu Buhari against the impact of a national lockdown without stimulus packages for Nigerians, calling on him to convert the TraderMoni to a stimulus package for Nigerians in order to mitigate hunger and suffering as the stay-at-home order continues.

OYC in a release signed by the President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and the Secretary-General, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike said such package could be distributed to identified beneficiaries through BVN, saying the order for Nigerians to stay at home could be flouted if adequate measures are not taken to ensure their comfort.

OYC also said it has provided N20m stimulus package for Ndigbo trapped in the North through their diaspora chapters, applauding governors of Southeast for taking drastic actions especially by placing a ban on social gatherings such as burials, weddings, religious gatherings, and others.

(2) OYC laud Southeast Governors Proactive measures put In place regards to checkmate the spread of Coronavirus especially now,there’s reported two fresh cases in Enugu State, We call on Igbos irrespective of pains associated with the lockdown of States boundaries and ban on vehicular activities, we must abide by the rules and regulations to ensure Southeast remain safe, We expect Enugu Government to do the needful and douse the tension associated with the new cases, there’s no need for Igbos to return home from the West and North during this period …We commend the efforts of various Southeast States taskforce on the need to shutdown all social gatherings especially burial and weddings and churches.

(3) OYC through her diaspora chapters, had provided 20million Stimulus packages for Igbos trapped in the North, including Abuja, We are aware of their plights in the face of discriminatory policies of some Northern Governors against them, but OYC knows that such discrimination might prompt mass Movement from North to East, might jeopardize the preventive measures put in place to protect people in the South East, we wish to inform Igbos in 19 Northern States that Southeast Governors Forum didn’t abandoned them, as OYC announces 20million Stimulus packages for Igbos trapped in the North, to assist Southeast Governors Forum to ensure that Igbos in the North are safe and secured, we commend the ingenuity of ABA artisans who had provided made in Aba Preventive materials, OYC call on Igbo National Assembly members to assist their various constituencies with Stimulus packages, as many of them had failed their Constituencies in the past.
