Lockdown: Avoid Stockpiling Petroleum Products, Fire Service Warns Abians

The Abia state Fire Service has warned the people of Abia state to avoid stockpiling petroleum products following the curfew imposed in the state by the government to curtail the spread of coronavirus.

The Service in a release signed by the state Comptroller, Gbaruko Victor Okechukwu expressed fear that this may lead to an outbreak, saying the Service has been mandated to watch closely the situation.

“It has come to the notice of the State Government that a lot of people are stockpiling petroleum products as a result of the anticipated lockdown of the State” he said.

He also reminded the people of the State that filling stations and gas stations are excluded from the stay-at-home order issued by the state governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu.

“Be reminded that filling stations and gas plants are exempted from the stay-at-home order. Therefore, it is unnecessary to engage in panic buying.

“However, the State Fire Services have been mandated to watch closely the situation which may eventually result into avoidable outbreak” the release added.
