Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu has called for closer partnership among leaders in the South East especially in his state Abia irrespective of their political parties.
According to him, this is one way to make significant impact in the lives of the people of the region and the state.
He gave this advice on Thursday at a civic grand reception organised in his honour by the Abia State government.
Elected on the platform of APC as representative of Bende Federal Constituency on the platform of APC, it marked his official home-coming since his emergence as the Deputy Speaker of the parliament.
The state government is under the control of Labour Party, the one state where the party secured a governorship seat in the 2023 governorship election.
“I am proud to assert that my leadership philosophy revolves around the idea that we can only impact well when we partner well. Irrespective of political affiliations, I firmly believe that every leader, whether in the opposition or the ruling party, has a role to play in the development of our beloved state.
“It is through collaborative efforts, collective wisdom, and a shared commitment to progress that we can overcome challenges and pave the way for a brighter future,” he said.
The lawmaker also applauded the warm and respectful relationship between the governor and President Bola Tinubu which he says reflects the spirit of unity crucial for the development of Abia, noting that each leader has a role to play.
“It is a rare occurrence to witness a sitting Governor acknowledging the collaborative efforts required for the state’s development. We have embarked on a journey together, recognizing the distinct roles each of us plays in steering Abia towards progress.
“I am committed to sustaining this partnership and contributing to the credit that will be rightfully attached to both the Governor and the state government. Together, we shall continue to set an example of effective governance that transcends political boundaries”, he assured.
Kalu also commended Gov. Otti’s leadership and commitment towards the restoration of critical infrastructure, especially with roads and urban renewal, which he said is in concurrence with a renewed focus on education and healthcare.
