Law School Enrolls 1,500 National Open University Graduates – VC

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) says 1,500 graduates of its law programme are currently in the Nigerian Law School.

NOUN Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, stated this at a press conference ahead of the 11th convocation of the institution hold on March 26.

“The law school was not sure of the kind of graduates we are producing and the idea is for them to try us first.

“They’ve found us to be extremely competitive because the people that we produced are of good quality,” he said.

The vice-chancellor said 22,250 students would be graduating, 16,681 of whom are undergraduates; and 5,569 postgraduate students.

Sponsored

He disclosed that 25 inmates of the Nigerian correctional centres were among those graduating, one of whom would bag a master’s degree.

Peters noted that the inmates were sponsored free by the university, saying “this is our own corporate social responsibility.”

He said the institution “has about 500,000 students in the nominal roll, but about 130,000 are active students.”

He noted that the institution does not accept unionism.
